A Chinatown Entrance, Boarded to Finished
This building entrance came to us boarded and sheeted in plastic after an overnight break-in — one leaf covered, the other exposed, and a community building unable to open properly.
The aluminum frames had survived intact, which is the usual outcome and the reason most storefront jobs cost far less than owners fear. We reglazed both leaves with new tempered panels, fitted new stops and gaskets, and left the original framing in place. Two visits: secure and measure, then glaze.

Gates, Closers, Transoms and Hardware
A storefront is more than one big pane. We work on the whole opening — transom panels above the door, sidelites either side, door stiles, and the hardware that decides whether the entrance actually works day to day.
That includes folding and scissor security gates for shops that have been hit more than once, hollow metal service doors at the back of house, door closers that have stopped closing, and locks and panic hardware. If glass keeps getting broken in the same spot, it's worth pricing security film or laminated glass against another round of replacements.

Commercial glass questions
How fast can you secure my storefront after a break-in?
Usually within a couple of hours, any time of night. The first visit clears the glass, boards the opening properly so you can lock up, and takes exact measurements. Most shops trade the next day behind plywood while the replacement panel is being cut.
Does storefront glass have to be tempered?
In most storefront positions, yes — the BC Building Code requires safety glazing in and beside commercial entry doors and in large panels near floor level. Tempered is the baseline. Laminated costs more but holds together in the frame after an impact, which is worth it for premises that get targeted repeatedly.
How long until the replacement panel arrives?
Standard clear tempered panels are typically a few business days. Laminated, tinted, low-E and oversized units are specialty orders and take longer. Safety glass can't be cut on site, so it's manufactured to your exact measurements — which is why the measuring visit happens the same night.
Do you replace the frame as well?
Only when it needs it. Aluminum storefront framing is tough and usually survives a break-in, in which case we simply reglaze it. If the frame is bent or a corner has pulled apart, we quote the framing as a separate line so you can see both numbers.
Can you work outside business hours so we don't lose trade?
Yes — evening and early-morning installs are routine for retail and restaurants. Tell us your quiet window when you book and we'll schedule the glazing visit around it.
Do you invoice in a format our insurer will accept?
Every invoice itemizes board-up, glass, labour and framing separately, and lists glass type, thickness and exact dimensions. That's what adjusters ask for. We can send it directly to your broker or property manager if that's easier.
What warranty and insurance do you carry?
Sealed units carry a 10-year warranty against seal failure, and our workmanship is warranted for one year from installation. Sparkle Glass Ltd. is in good standing with WorkSafeBC and carries liability insurance — certificates are available on request for property managers, strata councils and commercial clients.
